BITE / High Achiever Hub
(funding by Dublin North West Area Partnership (DNWAP) / SICAP )
This initiative with the aim of supporting and promoting academic achievement, now in it's third year, is co-ordinated by BITE working in collaboration with Trinity Comprehensive, Margaret Alyward, Plunkett College and Pobalscoil Rosmini. Through the development of hubs high achieving students attending after school classes - Maths, Science, Irish, History, English Language and Study Skills workshops, are supported and encouraged to take higher level subjects and sit the higher state examination papers.
Year 2018 Activities
High Achiever Hub - Oct/Dec 2018
The HUB programme commenced October 2018 for a group of this academic year's examination Junior Cert students. They will attend Maths Club every Tuesday after school and extra classes in Irish and Science on Wednesday afternoons.
Year 2017 Activities
High Achiever Hub - Nov/Dec 2017
The HUB continued in November & December 2017 for a group of Junior Cert students. They attended Maths Club every Tuesday after school and extra classes in Irish and Science on Wednesday afternoons. Students have had excellent attendance and the classes finished in mid December 2017 for this year.
High Achiever Hub - May 2017
The BITE Junior Cert Hub classes finished up on Wednesday 17th May. Well done to all participants for persevering with the programme and attending the extra classes to prepare for the exams. We would like to particularly commend Cillian O'Brien from Pobalscoil Rosmini for attending Maths Club every Tuesday and the students from Margaret Alyward Community College (Jennifer Emanuel, Jahera O'Hara, Nadine Kelly Hughes and Hayley McGowan O'Reilly) for making the weekly journey to the school on Tuesday and Wednesday's each week. And as always well done to the Trinity Comprehensive students for consistent attendance. Thanks to Miss Healy, Miss Walsh, Mr Dee, Miss Burke, Mr Kavanagh, Miss Williams, Miss Repishti and Mr Imonopi for teaching in the after school classes. Best of luck to all in the Junior Cert exams from all the BITE team.
High Achiever Hub - January 2017
The HUB has continued since January 2017 for a group of 16 Junior Cert students. They attend a Maths Club every Tuesday after school and have alternate classes in Irish, French, Geography and Business on Wednesday afternoons. Students have had excellent attendance and the classes will finish in mid May 2017 for this academic year.
Year 2016 Activities
High Achiever Hub Workshops Oct - Dec 2016
BITE High Achiever Hub is running a series of 6 workshops for a group of second year students from Trinity Comprehensive School, Margaret Alyward Community College and Pobalscoil Rosmini. We started with two Science lab workshops on the 19th, 26th October.

The workshops will resume after mid-term break with a Creative Writing Workshop with Trinity Comprehensive resident author Sheena Wilkinson.
A third science workshop was run on 23rd November - photos also included above.
Sheena Wilkinson, published author and Trinity Comprehensive patron, facilitated a Creative Writing Workshop for our 2nd year hub students on Wednesday 16th November. Great feedback from participating students involved from Trinity Comprehensive, Pobalscoil Rosmini and Margaret Aylward Community College. Thanks again to Sheena and JSCP Librarian Joe Kelly.
Students are participating really well to date so well done to all involved.
High Achiever Hub resumed - October 2016
The Junior Cert High Achiever Hub resumed again this year in October. Students from Trinity Comprehensive, Margaret Alyward Community College and Pobalscoil Rosmini are attending a Maths Club every Tuesday and Science and Irish classes every Wednesday. Classes will continue until early December and are exam focused giving student much needed support in attempting higher level options. Well done to all who are participating.
High Achiever Hub attend Dublin Zoo/Biodiversity Workshop - 4th May 2016
2nd and 3rd year students from the High Achiever Hub and BITE homework club visited Dublin Zoo on 4th May.

Students had lunch in the Meerkat Cafe and completed a Biodiversity workshop. This is a hands on workshop utilising bio-facts, live animal encounters and an introduction to the Zoo’s involvement in conservation and breeding programs. Students were also introduced to actions that they can carry out to help with protecting biodiversity. Thanks to all the staff there for making us so welcome. A great time was had by all and the sun Gods were shining on us!
2nd year Hub Radio Play workshop on 27th April 2016
Students in the 2nd year Hub participated in a Radioplay workshop on 27th April.
2nd year Hub attended a Discover DCU workshop on 20th April 2016
Students in the 2nd year Hub attended a Discover DCU workshop on 20th April. The workshop covered methods of learning and learning styles, goal setting and how to get to college. Students also had the opportunity to see the fabulous facilities on DCU campus and talk to some current students.
Junior Einsteins - Science Lab Workshop 6th April 2016
Junior Einsteins presented an interactive Science Lab Workshop for 2nd year Students from the High Achiever Hub. The students participated in a series of Laboratory experiments under the guidance of the Scientist.
Physics Workshop 2nd March 2016
Students from the High Achiever Hub participated in a special Physics Workshop with DR. Eilish McLaughlin from DCU - School of Physical Sciences.
Junior Einsteins - Science Workshop 23rd February 2016
Junior Einsteins presented an interactive Chemistry Workshop for 2nd year Students from the High Achiever Hub. The students carried out a number of science experiments with the Scientist explaining in a fun simple way the science behind the experiments.
December 2015 Activities
Students visit GAA Museum - Croke Park
Students from the High Achiever Hub attended an end of term trip to the GAA Museum and Skyline Tour on 9th December to mark the end of a busy term, learn about the history of the GAA and get a bird’s eye view of Dublin city sights and landmarks. A big thank you to Gemma in Croke Park for facilitating our group and Liam for showing us around and keeping nerves at bay on a very windy Wednesday afternoon!

JC English - Creative Writing Workshop with Sheena Wilkinson
High Achiever Hub Junior Cert students attended a special English - Creative Writing Workshop presented by award winning author of young adult books, Sheena Wilkinson, who has a special relationship as Patron of Reading with Trinity Comprehensive School.
ComiciGael Bilingual History Workshop - 2nd Years
High Achiever Hub 2nd year students attended a special bilingual history workshop presented by ComiciGael on revising Explorers / Christopher Columbus - a comic-strip approach was used - students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

High Achiever Hub Junior Cert students attended a special Science workshop during midterm - they had sufficient time to complete experiments and delve into the subject.

This new initiative commenced in October 2015 is being led and co-ordinated by BITE and working in collaboration with Trinity Comprehensive, Margaret Alyward, Plunkett College and Pobalscoil Rosmini. The pilot programme working with a group of fifteen 2nd and eighteen Junior Cert students with the aim of supporting and promoting academic achievement. Through the development of hubs high achieving students will be supported and encouraged to take higher level subjects and sit the higher state examination papers.Workshops and classes take place in Trinity Comprehensive School.
2nd year students are attending after school Maths classes, Science, Irish and History workshops. Junior Cert students have extra English, Maths and Irish classes with a number of Science, History and Creative Writing workshops. Both groups have attended study skills workshops.
